did you know? a glimpse into our future

“The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does.”-C. S. Lewis

This is a video I plan on using during a message I’m giving. I normally don’t post “sermon illustrations,” on my website, but this one just blew away! You need to watch it. Trust me.

{due to the HIGH demand for this video I have put up a link for you to download a high res version for you to use. To download the high res version, click here. Also please credit this site when posting to your own blog, etc. Thank you, and enjoy. Also please leave a comment on how you used it, I’d love to hear!}
(Thanks to Shawn for getting me the high res version!)

We showed that at Destiny about three weeks ago. Amazing.

  2. johndyer says:

My favorite part is near the beginning where it talks about "using new technologies that haven't been invented in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet."

I like it because it teaches two important, but mostly wrong ideas: (1) humanity has *new* problems, (2) *technology* can solve those problems.

While that's sort of true, it seems to forget that the deepest problems of humanity are not new and will never be solved by technology. The hurts, wars, and sadness of our race have never been alleviated by information or healed by devices. Only Christ gives us something *new* and *powerful* that can solve our problems.

Awesome!! So amazing how this all connects!! Our church had these a few weeks back-and I was just amazed by the stats! Rip into this and show everyone growth-what growth can do for our churches…but what we, need to, as humans stay in touch with in our church. God is the place to go-not computers for prayers, love, guidance…they help-and are a plus…and He has blessed us with them…but we shouldn't take His gifts from Him for granted! What an amazing God! Praise Him! God bless you and the service that shows this….it will be awesome!

    In His Grip,

    Hetty4Christ

    love this video… redunk

  25. While computers are excellent for storing, accessing and computing vast amounts of information, they lack wisdom. They have the same drawback that black and white human thinkers do: an inability to weigh and weight hundreds to thousands of variables to arrive at the Truth.

  26. Rex Barrett says:

Did you make this video Rick?

  27. rickonline says:

So true. They lack wisdom, which is lack of applying the knowledge!

  28. rickonline says:

No sir! I wish! it's great, huh?

  29. While computers can certainly compute faster even now, I wonder about those who believe it is possible for them to ever replace the wisest humans. I worked at IBM when Big Blue "defeated" the Chess champion. That took 64 (if my memory is correct) parallel processors programmed with every Chess match ever played and every possible move. And I still suspect if he had not been so shocked when the computer won he might not have lost.

We are still a very long way from a computer capable of true decision-making abilities – and it would only be relying on decisions programmed into it. Those who don't believe this should check out the hilarious ads Google AdWords displays and consider how many words have widely divergent meanings in multiple niches.

  30. I may end up using this video at a youth event i'm speaking at next week. so powerful.

me to! Isn't it funny how lame it will look in a few years…..Today will look the the stone age in ten years….yikes!
