did you know? a glimpse into our future

“The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does.”-C. S. Lewis

This is a video I plan on using during a message I’m giving. I normally don’t post “sermon illustrations,” on my website, but this one just blew away! You need to watch it. Trust me.

{due to the HIGH demand for this video I have put up a link for you to download a high res version for you to use. To download the high res version, click here. Also please credit this site when posting to your own blog, etc. Thank you, and enjoy. Also please leave a comment on how you used it, I’d love to hear!}
(Thanks to Shawn for getting me the high res version!)

innovation 3 aka nationwide tweet up

Innovation 3 has come and gone; but you know what they say – videos are forever.  {actually I don’t think anyone says that!}  What you are about to see is REAL, the names have NOT been changed to protect anyone.  Everyone in this video is a REAL person.

Speaking of “real” – I must say it was really awesome being able to meet so many people for the first time whom I have known on twitter for sometime.  It was great to put a person with a profile!  When I think about online-social-networking (as a means), doing this sort of stuff is certainly one of the ends (so to speak).

Being able to meet people, connect with people, hear people’s stories, hear people’s heart; is what being “created to relate” is all about!  I enjoy these sorts of “events.”  I enjoy being around all sorts of people.  I enjoy meeting connecting with people all sorts of ways!

I am so thankful that God did not make us to simply live alone, but He has blessed us by creating so many people (and so many creative ways to meet those people) that there is no excuse for anyone to live “alone,” especially in this social-networking-society we live in!  I am so thankful for the chance to have meet all of these people in the flesh.  I look forward to these types of “events” in the future!

One more thing – please leave your infomation in the comments section.  Your twitter name, your website address, what you do, what you dream, what your goals for 2009 are, heck, you can even tell us what your favorite flavor of ice-cream is.  I’d just like to “continue the conversation.”

One last {serious} word – if I know you {on any level}, thank you for letting me walk through life with you.  I really do consider it an honor!

{rick}.

{p.s. – I still have MUCH more footage from this event that I will be posting, so check back soon.  You won’t want to miss the innovation 3 after party!  Trust me!}

innovation 3 sneak peek

Yesterday I braved the Dallas ice storm of 2009 and make it out to the Innovation 3 conference. I’m glad I did! It was amazing to meet so many people that I have interacted with, but have never met. I’ll talk more about this in another post, so stay tuned!

One thing I did while at the conference was take a TON of video. So much, in fact, it’s going to take a little time to sort through it all. However, I wanted to give you just a very small taste of what’s to come! I hope you enjoy!

#rick_smith day

I wanted to thank my good friend Matt Knisely for making this the official Rick_Smith day.  (actually it’s sort of a twitter joke – so if it sounds like I”m being prideful– I’m not -  I’m actually being EXTREMELY geeky!)  Regardless, if your own twitter – I look forward to connecting with you!  twitter.com/Rick_Smith!  Thanks again Matt – your day is coming, and WILL come very soon!

-Enjoy

important announcement

Spring Seminary Reading List – 2009

A great classic book it logo from pizza hut.

The Book It logo was awesome...!

Well the spring semester at DTS has arrived, and has brought with it a new set of books that must be read, digested, critiqued, discussed, and interacted with.  Non-seminary friends often ask what books I’m currently reading in my graduate studies in theology.

In light of that; I thought it would be helpful to list my current semester’s assigned readings. Perhaps some of these books may be of interest to you! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me; I’d love to chat more about any of these topics with you!

twitter kidnapped me

twitterSo twitter kidnapped me! Yelp, that’s right – kidnapped me away {sort of} form my own website! You may have noticed that I haven’t really updated this site in several weeks. (actually almost a month!) Why? Well, I have been “blogging” on twitter! Yelp – that’s right. Blogging on my twitter page. When I blog I blog about random things – faith, my life, random funny things, and to be honest I have found it to be much easier to do this via twitter.

Don’t get me wrong – I’ll still come here and post random blogs, put up videos, pictures, etc. – however my twitter “friend” list has grown in a big way over the last month, or so, and I find it easier to connect with folks on there. If you don’t have a twitter account, you really should. Trust me – just try it for a week! (I know it sounds weird at first, but it actually is a great tool!) If you don’t know what twitter is, here is a quick video that will help explain it to you!

If you don’t have a twitter account – set one up – and follow me! I’d love to connect with you. If you do have a twitter account; send me a message – I’d love to connect with you!

(by the way – I will still be posting on this blog from time to time – I have just found twitter to be a much more productive tool for me to interact with people on the web! So if (for some reason) you want more frequent updates on my life – please visit my twitter page!)
